OpenAI under fire: Can chatbots ever truly be child-safe?

Gambar
Did ChatGPT play a role in a 16-year-old’s suicide? That's what the family claims in court against OpenAI. What exactly makes chatbots so risky? Matthew and Maria Raine are not only seeking financial compensation for the death of their son Adam. With their lawsuit against internet giant OpenAI, they also want to make sure that nothing like this ever happens again. They are convinced that OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot contributed significantly to Adam's death. In a similar case, a mother from Florida claims that the chatbot known as Character.AI encouraged her 14-year-old son to take his own life. Chatbots are internet-based programs that allow even young or inexperienced people to interact with artificial intelligence (AI) based on large language models (LLMs). Chatbots are not necessarily just designed to provide information, generate images or videos, or write code to program websites. They are also often programmed to interact as if they want to please their human counterpa...

Gambar
Starting next year, Rwandans in urban areas, especially in Kigali, could begin receiving their purchases – ranging from food and pharmacy items to e-commerce packages – delivered directly to their homes by drone within minutes. At the Aviation Africa Summit 2025 held at the Kigali Convention Centre, Zipline unveiled its latest drone model it calls Platform 2 (P2) — a next-generation autonomous aircraft designed specifically for urban delivery. “Hopefully, in 2026, we should be able to present something to the general public in Kigali where we can do home deliveries. So, we are really excited to complete the test phase and stabilising it as much as possible before we can launch and operate,” Pierre Kayitana, General Manager at Zipline Rwanda, told The New Times about the company’s roadmap for rolling out this new technology locally. Elementary students' explicit AI chats alarm schools, parents

Gambar
As cases of using AI for explicit conversations increase, schools and parents are struggling. Recently, AI chat apps like ‘ZETA’ and ‘BABECHAT’ have gained popularity among elementary and middle school students. While these apps appear to be simple games where users create characters and continue conversations, they are often used to create ‘virtual lovers,’ simulate romantic relationships, or engage in sexually suggestive dialogues. Some schools have even sent letters to parents urging caution. Namchuncheon Girls’ Middle School issued a notice in June stating, “There are concerns about exposure to violent or sexually suggestive conversations.” Chunghyun Middle School in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province; Yeongseon Middle School in Gochang, North Jeolla Province; and Chungbuk National University’s Affiliated Middle School have also restricted the use of generative AI chat apps. ◇“Secret Nightly Use”…Parents’ Shock and Concern AI characters can be customized in detail, including body parts...

Dogecoin Trader Who Turned $10,000 into $1.84M in 2021 Reveals the Coin He’d Buy to Do It Again By 2026

Gambar
In 2021 one of the most talked about success stories was a trader who was able to turn 10 thousand dollars into 1.84 million dollars through the remarkable surge of Dogecoin. That story captured global attention because it demonstrated how quickly meme energy and community momentum can transform a life. Fast forward to today, and a new project called Little Pepe draws comparisons to that wild moment, with analysts discussing a possible 20000% increase from its current presale price. The Legacy of Dogecoin According to market data, Dogecoin (DOGE) is trading actively today, with prices around $0.22. It is far from its 2021 peak of $0.73, but it continues to have one of the most loyal communities in crypto. Dogecoin highlights the reality of meme tokens. Dogecoin can deliver astronomical growth, but as its market cap is billions, the room for explosive upside becomes limited. This is where Little Pepe is being positioned differently. It enters the scene with what many call a zero market ...

PEPE Stuck at $0.00000147, Hyperliquid Clears $1.2B Volume, While BlockDAG $0.0013 Window Closing Rapidly

Gambar
PEPE is moving sideways after its earlier rally, driven mostly by meme trends and social sentiment. Hyperliquid is gaining attention with strong daily volume and backend upgrades, but still depends on broader trading activity to maintain momentum. BlockDAG, however, is advancing with measurable traction. With nearly $400 million raised, over 25.7 billion coins sold, 3 million daily miners, and 19,000 hardware units already shipped, its progress is rooted in participation. The $0.0013 price is more than a discount, it’s a timestamp. Right now, BlockDAG stands out as the best crypto to buy. BlockDAG: This Price Won’t Age, But It Will Expire $0.0013 might seem like a small number, but in crypto, context is everything. For example, early buyers who entered BlockDAG at $0.001 are now sitting on a 2,900% ROI based on the current batch price of $0.03. Furthermore, with nearly $400 million raised and over 25.7 billion coins sold, this isn’t the early testing phase anymore; rather, it’s the con...

The linguistic diversity of Africa and Its absence in AI development

Gambar
Although Africa is home to a huge proportion of the world's languages – well over a quarter according to some estimates - many are missing when it comes to the development of artificial intelligence (AI). This is both an issue of a lack of investment and readily available data. Most AI tools, such as ChatGPT, used today are trained on English as well as other European and Chinese languages. These have vast quantities of online text to draw from. But as many African languages are mostly spoken rather than written down, there is a lack of text to train AI on to make it useful for speakers of those languages. For millions across the continent this means being left out. Researchers who have been trying to address this issue have recently released what is thought to be the largest known dataset of African languages. "We think in our own languages, dream in them and interpret the world through them. If technology doesn't reflect that, a whole group risks being left behind...

Generative AI lacks human empathy, creativity

Gambar
There are times when I think, “I am a lucky person.” This is because I retired from the university before generative artificial intelligence became widely used. Throughout my tenure, exams were conducted as open-book tests. Students would answer philosophy questions with no single correct answer while referring to books, smartphones, and laptops. They found essay-based exams, which transparently revealed their comprehension and reasoning skills, more challenging. That era has passed. Generative AI like ChatGPT smoothly unravels answers to various questions, including philosophical ones. Large language models, which respond effortlessly, appear to be omniscient. Advanced features in the latest models have reduced the persistent issue of “hallucinations” (false information). They respond more fluently to English queries. Generative AI has also transcended language barriers, acting as a “competent personal assistant” that translates materials and even organizes schedules. ChatGPT is a hot...

Europe bets on supercomputer to catch up in AI race

Gambar
Europe's fastest supercomputer Jupiter was inaugurated Friday in Germany with Chancellor Friedrich Merz saying it could help the continent catch up in the global artificial intelligence race. "We in Germany, and we in Europe, have every opportunity to catch up and then keep pace" with AI pioneers the United States and China, said Merz. Here is all you need to know about the system, which boasts the power of around one million smartphones. What is the Jupiter supercomputer? Based at Juelich Supercomputing Centre in western Germany, it is Europe's first "exascale" supercomputer -- meaning it will be able to perform at least one quintillion (or one billion billion) calculations per second. The United States already has three such computers, all operated by the Department of Energy. Jupiter is housed in a centre covering some 3,600 metres (38,000 square feet) -- about half the size of a football pitch -- containing racks of processors, and packed with about 24,...

When AI meets HR: Rethinking work and value

Gambar
AI is transforming how we work, but it is also quietly reshaping what it means to be human on the job. At a roundtable hosted by RMIT Vietnam and Deloitte, business leaders, HR experts, and academics explored how organizations can stay resilient while keeping people at the center of AI-powered change. The event, themed "Human value & AI—Navigating hidden impacts & fostering growth & resilience," featured a keynote by Yun-Han Lee, Director of Technology and Transformation, Human Capital at Deloitte SEA. His message was clear: AI is revolutionizing work, but without a renewed focus on human value, organizations risk losing sight of what truly drives performance and engagement. Promise and pressure Lee opened the discussion by challenging the audience to rethink their assumptions about AI's role in the workplace. "Your old value case isn't enough. You need a human value proposition for the age of AI," he said. Yun-Han Lee, Director of Technology ...
